The American Society of Civil Engineers

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), founded in 1852, is the oldest national engineering society in the United States. ASCE was formed to enhance the quality of life through the advancement of professional knowledge and by improving the practice of civil engineering.

ASCE received its student chapter charter in 1989 and has since been one of the most active organizations in the College of Engineering.  Our goal is to promote the interest and participation in civil and environmental engineering by means of interaction with professionals and faculty as well as student team competitions.
ASCE-UTSA holds bi-weekly meetings in the fall and spring semesters in which we invite professional engineers from the San Antonio engineering community to discuss the various fields of civil engineering and the problems and solutions we will face in the workplace.

We also actively participate in hands on competitions such as the steel bridge and concrete canoe competitions which encourages student members to work as a team to by designing and constructing a finished product that will go on to compete against other universities in the nation.
